The idea is easy to describe: alternating sections wear orange or white. The effect depends on everyone doing a small thing together. From field level, the checkerboard wraps the game; from above, the crowd becomes part of Tennessee’s visual identity.
That collective authorship matters. Tennessee credits a fan-originated effort in 2014, not a shirt giveaway that manufactured uniformity at the gate. The pattern works because supporters choose to make it work.
